(Tue Jul 10, 2012) The American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion was established in 1919 toward the end of World War I to promote veteran's affairs. A charter was awarded to the Closter Post 111 in September of 1919. To be eligible for membership in the American Legion, a person must have served in the armed forces during wartime, as stipulated by Congress, and be honorably discharged from the service.
The Leroy S. Mead Post 111 meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM in the Senior Citizens Club building, 4 Lewis St. The Post Commander for year 2010-2011 is Joe Organo, 201-767-7212. The Adjutant (Secretary) is Bill Brewster, 201-768-4535 or Meadpost111@aol.com
